SUPERPARAMAGNETIC FLUORESCENT POLYMER PARTICLES

PS-MAG-FluoYellow-COOH-S2467; diameter 10,31 µm.
(top without; and bottom under the influence of an external magnetic field)

MicroParticles GmbH now offers a series of superparamagnetic polystyrene-based fluorescent particles. Currently, these newly developed monodisperse particles come in the nominal diameter range from 1 through 10 microns. The particle surfaces possess COOH-functionalities, thus providing the possibility to couple proteins, such as trypsin, streptavidin, or ssDNA. The particle core consists of a polystyrene matrix (PS) with incorporated nanosized iron oxide. The surface of the particles is sealed with a hydrophilic, COOH-containing polymer shell up to a thicknes of several 100 nm. This sealing prevents leaching of iron oxide into the surrounding medium. Moreover, the polymer coat contains the fluorophore with various colors available.
More significant properties of the new magnetic microparticles are:

  • Narrow size distribution (C.V. < 5 %) and absolutely spherical shape.
  • Superparamagnetism.
  • Excellent dispersibility in aqueous systems (pH > 7).
  • High fluorescence intensity with various fluorophores.
  • High reactivity of the COOH groups at the particle surfaces.
